This Company Will Pay You $50 This Year Just for Downloading Its Free App

Do you have a laptop, tablet or smartphone? If so, follow me on a quick trip to some easy money.
You know Nielsen, the company that tracks TV ratings? It also measures the popularity of websites and online videos.
To do that, Nielsen wants to pay you to join the Nielsen Panel and let it anonymously collect information from your favorite web-surfing device. You can earn $50 a year to browse the web like you normally do.
And best of all, this won’t slow down your phone or computer.
Of course you have a laptop, tablet or smartphone. You’re a human being in the 21st century, after all. Shoot, you’re probably reading this on one of those devices right now.
Here’s the deal:
Sign up to join the Nielsen Panel here ( Estadounidenses hispanos). It’ll pay you $50 a year to keep the app on your device.
If you have a desktop or laptop computer, you’ll receive entries into the company’s $10,000 monthly sweepstakes for every month you keep Nielsen’s software installed on your computer. Every month, 400 people win prizes, with the two top prizewinners taking home $1,000 each.

Super Easy to Set up

So, I tried this out. Here’s how it went:
It was super easy.
First I registered on the website for the Nielsen Computer & Mobile Panel. It took all of five minutes to fill out a brief survey with my name, the number of people in my household and what kinds of devices we use.
I was never asked for my Social Security number or bank account information or anything like that.
Then I downloaded Nielsen’s software onto my Asus laptop and my iPhone 6. I’m all set! At this point, I’m just waiting for the rewards to roll in.
For every month I have Nielsen’s app on my iPhone, doing its thing in the background, I earn points I can redeem for gift cards at places like Amazon, iTunes or Walmart. I can earn up to $50 in points by sticking with this for a year. Easy-peasy.
And for every month I keep Nielsen’s software on my laptop, I earn entries into Nielsen’s $10,000 monthly sweepstakes — 400 winners each get up to $1,000.

It Won’t Slow Me Down, Will It?

Nielsen knows the question you want to ask here:
Will this thing slow down my phone and/or laptop until it’s moving with the speed of an elderly turtle on sleeping pills and it’s driving me crazy and I can’t stand it anymore?
You know, that question.
It’s OK. That’s a perfectly valid question. We know you were thinking it. Many of us have had that kind of experience when we download a program like this onto our devices.
Well, never fear. Nielsen pledges its app is “noninvasive and won’t impact device performance.”
I can report that, so far, I haven’t seen any difference at all in the speeds of my phone or my laptop.
“The app is easy to install, won’t slow down your devices and sends us anonymous data about how you use the internet,” Nielsen explains. “Our app never collects the content of visited websites, and we do NOT collect user IDs, passwords or other private information.”
Pro tip: You can get paid for each device you connect.

Thank you for a great post! I have to admit I have been signed up with the Nielsen Mobile panel for quite awhile, and I have seen ZERO rewards from the program, beyond the weekly enter for your chance to win email. On the other hand, Nielsen does have another program that you may want to check into if you haven’t already called the Nielsen Homescan. I have been a member with them for easily over 10 years, and have earned enough points to cash out for gifts like Bose Headphones, and a Kindle. Thank you for reminding me about… Read more »

I was a member for about 6 years until August 2017 when they cancelled my membership after I moved house and could not set up scanner in my new home until I had a landline connected. When it was finally connected I set up my scanner and began scanning my shopping again. I then received an email informing me that as I hadn’t scanned for a while they were going to send a debt management company to see me and collect what I owed unless I gave them back their scanner. I wrote back explaining I had moved and asked… Read more »

Thanks for writing this , yes I am familiar with the Nielson company. They are HUGE worldwide. Once upon a time I even filled out their TV watching surveys for profit. Yikes! I don’t like the idea of downloading an app to record my personal internet movements. How do I know that there isn’t a 2nd piece of code on that device that will monitor my passwords and record what I type in? Yikes this seems a really tough sell for me. I don’t think I like the sound of this “big brother” app at all. The lure of being… Read more »

Today, we are offering an opportunity to a select group of *************members (I removed the name since we are not allowed to mention them here) to join our sister panel, The Nielsen Online Panel and help make the web a better place to work, play and surf. As a valued member of the Nielsen Panel all new members will receive two plays in our Wave and Win instant win game just for installing their software as well as being entered into their £5000 quarterly prize draw. Once installed, you will then continue to receive 2 Wave and Win instant win… Read more »

I’ve been a Nielsen Homescan Panel member since 2008. I also participate in one of the long-term specialty panels that tracks specific types of purchases over time. As your membership in the panel matures, you get promoted so that you actually earn more points per survey or scan transmission. If you tend to shop so that you buy a large number of items per trip, then the scanning process can take a while. The company provides a booklet with scan codes for items that may not have the UPC bar code, such as fresh produce or meats. I have used… Read more »

Nielsen is a big survey company, so there isn’t a problem there.

I joined the Neilsen Online Panel about 18 months ago, and it works in the same way as GFK Web Appreciation Surveys.

You have to download a piece of software from Nielsen which allows them to see which websites you access. I deleted the software after 3 months as it was messing around with IE7, and I kept getting error messages.

I just downloaded the Nielsen Computer and mobile Panel app, per their instructions and they want me to allow all permissions. Then app says it needs access to my storage to write a log onto my sd card to prevent unnecessary data charges!!! Don’t know as I’m comfortable with them having their way with my electronics!!!! Seems a little too invasive, they want access to texts, and, location, and want me to add all devices we have. What does anyone think?? I feel as though I’m going to be the next story line for The Twilight Zone!!!
